The Voice of an Angel is how most people describe Jennifer Mason.
Whether in a small, intimate venue, a large concert hall, or outdoors on Parliament Hill in Canada's capital, listeners are always moved by Jennifer's magnificent voice and artistic sensitivity. She has that rare ability to directly touch the hearts of her listeners that sets an artist apart. Barbara Hammer (writer and creator of TV's Cagney and Lacey series) wrote: "It would be impossible to express the deep feelings [Jennifer's music] evoked in me". Her singing is frequently described as inspired, hauntingly beautiful, and pure.
An artist of unusual range and versatility, Jennifer is a classically trained lyric soprano who holds music degrees from the Royal Conservatory, the University of Toronto, and the University of Ottawa. Jennifer combines vocal mastery and an extensive background in classical music and opera, with studies in violin, piano, organ, harp and ethnomusicology. She composes music and has many years' experience as a performer, teacher, choral conductor and painter.
Mothers of the World is Jennifer's debut CD, an extraordinary musical journey exploring the mysteries of the first song of love - the lullaby. It sprang from her desire to celebrate both our cultural diversity and our universal oneness with music that expresses love. Encompassing many musical styles, Jennifer researched ancient traditional lullabies from around the world and sought out native speakers to coach her in the original languages - Japanese, Spanish, Gaelic, Greek, Cayuga, and Yoruba among them. Jennifer recorded these songs with American producer Paul Gilman, and added original material they wrote together. Mothers of the World is an intriguing musical journey and a perfect gift.
Jennifer has lived with arthritis for many years and supports arthritis research. Part of the sale of every CD is donated to AARC, the Arthritis and Autoimmunity Research Centre in Toronto, a world leader in arthritis research.
