Why AARC?
AARC is the Arthritis & Autoimmunity Research Centre, a research collaborative at University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto. AARC houses one of the most exciting research initiatives in Canada. More than 100 basic, clinical and population health researchers are working together with a united, dedicated goal – to find cures for arthritis and related autoimmune disorders. The rate of medical research advances provide strong evidence that we may be closer to that goal than many imagine. AARC is a global leader on the forefront of these new discoveries.
Visit www.beatarthritis.ca for more information and ways to help us find cures for these diseases, which affect over 4.5 million Canadians, young and old.
Here are just a few of AARC’s current research projects:
- How genes and proteins affect the development of arthritis.
This will impact future diagnosis as well as treatment. - Clinical trials to test the effectiveness and safety of new drugs.
- Studying the environmental factors in reactive arthritis.
- Advances in the treatment of degenerative disk disease.
- Investigating genetic factors in lupus.
- Developing new, minimally invasive orthopaedic surgeries.
- The Total Joint Network improves patient care and outcomes.
- Population health research helps patients live in the community with a better quality of life.
